U.S. Open is ready for Super Saturday

If you are a tennis fan, like I am, then Super Saturday from the U.S. Open is must see TV and with the men’s semifinal ‘s and the women’s finals that is about 12 hours of the best action you are likely to see anywhere in any sport.

Talking to CBS tennis analyst Jim Courier a four time Grand Slam winner and a man who reached the 1991 U.S. Open he really knows all about Super Saturday. In our conversation there was plenty of ground to cover on a busy day in Flushing Meadows, New York.

Courier on the men’s draw:”Right now it looks like Rafael Nadal is destine to make it to the finals and that is a great thing for him. New York is the perfect stage for him; the crowd is like no other place in tennis. New York crowds don’t sit on their hands and players like “Rafa” play off the energy that they are more than happy to give them. Meanwhile, anyone who over looks Roger Federer  would be crazy, but he looked great beating Robin Soderling and should be able to beat a very tough Novak Djokovic in the semi. But I really think most fans would love to see “Rafa and Roger” in the finals.”

Courier on the women’s final:”I really like Caroline Wozniacki she loves New York, she has played great tennis and is looking for the crowd to be on her side. Kim Clijsters – Venus Williams should make for a great semi final and have to like Kim slightly. So for me I like a Wozniacki to get her first Major against either Kim or Venus.”

Courier on being Davis Cup Capitan:”First of all Patrick McEnroe did an outstanding job as Davis Cup coach and he will be a tough act to follow. That said,  I would love to be able to coach our Davis Cup team. I loved playing and I am honored to be in the mix. I know that there are good candidates on the roster like Todd Martin who I know well and we played together on the Davis Cup team. We will see what the USTA has to say about the matter and in the meantime they know I am very interested in the job.”
